Bigger projects on your print list? Meet the hotend we developed with Phaetus for large prints, batch production, and rapid prototyping.

The Filament Must Flow.

Especially when you’re printing big. Long walls and broad stretches of infill need a steady supply of molten filament, and your hotend’s ability to keep up can set the pace.

That’s why we teamed up with Phaetus to create the Snapmaker × Phaetus Liber™ High Flow Hotend for U1: more melting capacity for the projects you can’t wait to make.

Made for U1

Liber is a complete hotend assembly developed specifically for Snapmaker U1. Inside, you’ll find Phaetus’ Liber Split-Flow Melt Channel, a DLC-coated hardened-steel nozzle, and a precision-machined seamless heat break.

We designed these components around U1’s hardware and printing workflow, so the extra melting capacity fits into an integrated U1 experience.

More flow for demanding prints

Volumetric flow is the amount of molten material a hotend can deliver each second. It matters when your print calls for a lot of material, continuously.

Rather than run all of the filament through a straight pipe, Liber splits the melted filament into several channels. This increases the effective surface-to-volume ratio, helping heat reach the filament’s core more efficiently.

In comparative tests under matched energy-use conditions, Liber delivered higher volumetric flow than the U1 Stainless Steel Hotend:

  • PLA: 66% higher
  • ABS: 87% higher
  • PETG HF: 43% higher

That’s up to 87% more material output. It doesn’t mean every print will finish 87% faster: the benefit depends on how much of your print is limited by the hotend’s melting capacity.

“We are delighted to partner with Snapmaker on the Liber High Flow Hotend. Snapmaker’s rigorous engineering and focus on user experience complement Phaetus’ extrusion expertise. Working closely, our teams combined high melt-flow performance, precise control, durability, and ease of use in a solution developed for U1. This collaboration is an important step toward a more open technology ecosystem, and we look forward to working with Snapmaker to advance 3D printing innovation and adoption.”

Where Liber makes a difference

Think of a large enclosure with long walls, or a substantial part with broad areas of infill. These are the kinds of prints where Liber can make the clearest difference.

Long, continuous extrusion paths need a steady supply of melted filament. More melting capacity helps reduce the slowdowns that happen when a hotend can’t keep up. The same benefit can help with batch production and rapid prototyping, especially when your parts involve lots of continuous extrusion.

We also wanted that extra flow to deliver good-looking prints. Efficient melting and stable extrusion help maintain interlayer adhesion and preserve fine surface details at higher speeds. Comparative testing also showed reduced stringing and oozing, helping keep printed surfaces cleaner.

The details that keep things flowing

The nozzle combines a hardened-steel substrate, with a hardness of HV 725–780, and a wear-resistant DLC coating to help extend its life.

Inside the seamless heat break, the surface roughness is Ra ≤ 0.2 μm. That smooth inner surface helps reduce material adhesion. Micron-level machining tolerances and precision-mated end faces also help reduce the risk of leakage and clogging.

These small details work together to support more dependable extrusion when your print asks a lot of the hotend.

More possibilities for your U1

One of the exciting things about building U1’s accessory ecosystem is working with people who bring their own specialist knowledge to the printer.

With Phaetus, we developed the melt-channel geometry, nozzle coating, and heat-break tolerances as an integrated system for U1. Liber adds another option to that growing partner ecosystem, giving you more ways to match your printer to the projects you want to make.

Donald Wan, Chief Technology Officer at Phaetus, presents the Liber™ High Flow Hotend for U1.
“U1 continues to grow with its users,” said Mickey Ke, Chief Operating Officer at Snapmaker. “The growth of its accessory ecosystem is central to that vision. By combining Snapmaker’s platform engineering with the specialized expertise of partners such as Phaetus, we can respond to a wider range of user needs and continue adding value throughout the product’s lifecycle. This collaborative approach also reinforces what the Snapmaker brand stands for: products that remain adaptable, capable, and closely connected to real-world creative workflows. The Liber High Flow Hotend is an important step in building that ecosystem and lays the groundwork for further collaboration around U1.”

Have a big model or a project with long, continuous printing paths in mind? That’s where Liber fits: extra melting capacity to help your U1 keep the material flowing.
