Buying a printer: what can you make with the U1 out of the box?

Imagine printing a personalized nameplate with a dark base, white lettering, and a two-color emblem. The Snapmaker U1 has four separate toolheads, so you can load those four colors and let the printer switch between them as it builds the sign. The U1 prints the lettering and emblem in their respective colors, so you don’t have to paint raised details by hand afterward.

For PLA signs, multicolor toys, and everyday desk accessories, start with the included 0.4 mm nozzles and the filament your design calls for. You can add a top cover or a finer nozzle later, when a project calls for one. If you already own a printer and want the U1 specifically for multicolor work, check the upgrade offer before placing your order.

Buying filament: choose the look you want to print

For a coordinated set of holiday gifts, start with Christmas Creation. It’s the bundle to consider if you have several designs in mind and want a shared palette across gift tags, ornaments, and small decorations.

Christmas Special Filament Bundle, black friday deals

For ornaments that catch the light on a tree, look at Shimmering Ornaments. For a window decoration that lets light pass through, look at Translucent Decor. Those two bundles cost the same, so choose by how you want the finished piece to look: shimmer on the surface or light through the print. If you haven’t settled on a design, these 3D printed Christmas gift ideas are a useful starting point.

Choose individual rolls instead when you already know which color you’ll use most. A batch of red gift tags with white lettering may need several rolls of red and very little white. Check your slicer’s material estimate for the full batch, subtract what’s already on your shelf, and use the bulk tiers in the table for the rolls you actually need.

Upgrading a U1: a top cover for ABS and ASA, or a finer nozzle for small details?

Choose the U1 Top Cover if the material is what’s holding you back. Say you want to print an outdoor sensor housing in ASA. As a large, flat print cools, it can contract and pull its corners away from the build plate. The cover retains heat and helps maintain a more stable chamber temperature, reducing the risk of warping when printing materials such as ASA and ABS. That makes it a useful addition when you move from PLA decorations to functional parts in those materials.

Choose the U1 0.2 mm Hardened Steel Hot End if your projects involve miniature models, elaborate logos, or small text. For example, when printing a miniature storefront, a 0.2 mm nozzle can capture fine features such as narrow window frames and tiny lettering with greater definition than a standard 0.4 mm nozzle. It’s designed for use with filaments that contain no particles or debris, such as PLA, PETG, ABS, and ASA. For larger models and everyday prints, the standard 0.4 mm hot end remains a more practical choice. Keep in mind that the U1 cannot use different nozzle sizes within a single print.
